In the elementary grades, students engage in core subjects that form the foundation of their learning experience. Insight PA employs PA-certified elementary school teachers who teach students in live, daily class sessions. K-2 students remain with one teacher for all classes while students in grades 3-6 rotate through a team of teachers for their core subjects.
Students in grades K-6 study English/Language Arts, Mathematics, History/Social Studies, Science, Art, Music, Physical Education, and Health. Teacher directed lessons are offered daily for English Language Arts (ELA), Math, Science and Social Studies. Art, Music, Physical Education, and Health courses are offered as asynchronous courses where students work at their own pace and schedule. Students develop and practice social and emotional skills in Homeroom, sessions with school counselors, and social opportunities that take place across the state.
Elementary teachers develop clear and comprehensive instructional learning paths for each student and monitor progress towards these goals throughout the school year with quarterly reports. They build relationships and maintain contact with all students and families via live sessions, email, phone, conferences, and face-to-face experiences (such as field trips and state assessment testing sites).
Students are expected to master PA standards in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, History/Social Studies, Science in order to be considered for grade level promotion. For students who are struggling, Insight PA modifies curriculum expectations as appropriate per Pennsylvania Department of Education guidelines.
