SUMMARY:Lackawanna County - Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour
DESCRIPTION:  \nGrab your hard hat and come explore 300 feet beneath the earth’s surface through an anthracite coal mine in Scranton\, PA.  We will follow a guide through the winding underground gangways and tunnels past three different veins of coal. We will listen as they take us back in time and show us a day in the life of the area workers that powered the Industrial Revolution.  The descent down the slope in a mine car takes 3-4 minutes. The walking portion of the tour is approximately 1/2 mile and lasts one hour. The mine’s temperature is 53°F year-round. DESCRIPTION:  \nA dark narrow hole leading into the side of a steep hill was accidentally discovered by William Merkel and John Gehret while they were blasting for limestone on a chilly Sunday morning\, 1871.  After the smoke cleared and the surrounding dirt was removed\, they realized that the opening was large enough to enter.  Curiosity led them inside\, but total darkness and fear of the unknown kept them from going any further…  Want to know what happened next??  Join us on April 11th as we descend 125 feet underground into Crystal Cave!  The mine’s temperature is 54°F year-round. SUMMARY:Monroe County - Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm
DESCRIPTION:  \nTHIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER.  THE NEW DATE IS 10/20/2025. \nAt Quiet Valley\, our students will experience 19th Century Farm Life through a costumed guided tour. Period-dressed “family” members reenact the life of the original Pennsylvania German family who lived on the farm from the 1760s to 1913. Students will learn about daily life in the farmhouse\, including household tasks\, textile production\, and food preparation. \nTickets to this field trip are limited and only available to students and their chaperone(s). \nCost – Insight PA will cover the admission cost for currently enrolled students and one adult per family.  The venue is only open to school groups at this time.  There are a limited number of additional tickets available and will be reserved for adult chaperones (no siblings\, please) for the cost of $12 (cash only). \nRefreshments – Lite refreshments will be provided by Insight PA.  Families are welcome to bring bagged lunch. \nParking – There is a free\, on-site parking lot available. \nMeeting Location – Insight PA staff will have a sign-in table set up near the entrance. \nRegistration is required and will close at 4:00pm on 5/13/25. \nStudent Sign Up Form\nStaff Sign Up Form
